Market wrap: a two-day charge, then a pause for breath

Thursday 5 – Friday 6 November 2026 · PSX Analysis

Two sessions told the whole story of this market in November. On Thursday the KSE-100 charged ahead by 3,366 points to close at 175,379.87, its second heavy gain in a row. By Friday's midday break the same index sat at 173,885.78, down 0.85%, as the traders who rode the charge took some money off the table before the weekend. Neither move, on its own, changes the plot. Together they describe a market that still wants to go up, but no longer in a straight line.

Thursday belonged to the banks

Almost 40% of Thursday's index gain came from commercial banks, which contributed about 1,297 points, with cement adding a further 626 points as United Bank, Lucky Cement and Meezan Bank did the heavy lifting. Participation was real, not cosmetic: just under a billion shares changed hands, worth roughly Rs 46 billion — volumes up nearly a fifth and value up nearly a third on the previous session. Falling oil prices and a calmer reading of the US midterm results took some of the geopolitical sting out of the air, and local money did the rest.

Friday was the bill for Thursday

Profit-taking on Friday morning was flagged in advance and arrived on schedule. The fall was broad but orderly — the KSE-30 slipped 1.47% and the KMI-30 0.87% by the break — and it came against decent news, not bad: the State Bank's foreign-exchange reserves rose $39 million to $21.56 billion, with total liquid reserves at $26.86 billion. When a market falls on good news after two vertical sessions, the first explanation to test is positioning, not panic.

The technical picture says: extended, not broken

Momentum is stretched. The relative strength index printed 70.7 after Thursday's close — overbought territory — so a consolidation around here is healthy rather than alarming. Nearby support sits around 174,250 on an intraday basis, with a deeper demand shelf much lower; resistance is the 176,600 area the index probed on Thursday. A clean break above that level with volume would reopen the run toward the high-170,000s. Until then, chasing vertical candles is the most expensive habit on this exchange. Full levels are on the technical snapshot.

What we publish

Daily market wrap — every trading day, the close explained in plain language: what moved, who moved it, and what it means. Weekly outlook — a forward look each week at levels, upcoming results and the events that matter; the established broker portals do not publish a weekly as a standalone product, and that gap is exactly where we intend to live. Result reviews — earnings season broken down company by company, with dividend and payout context from our screener data. Top-picks tracker — the big houses' published picks followed openly, so a recommendation made in January is still being scored in June.

Broker consensus: Dec 2026 KSE-100 targets

Topline Securities203,000Includes an expected dividend yield of about 7%

Targets are the brokerages' own published strategy calls, summarised here for comparison. They were set when the index traded well below its November level, so the remaining upside is smaller than the headline percentages suggested at the time.

Our own stance, for the record: with the index having already reclaimed the mid-170,000s and momentum overbought, the consensus targets imply a grind rather than a sprint from here. Earnings delivery in banks, cement and energy — not multiple expansion alone — has to do the work.
